Support Stop AAPI Hate With Todd Snyder x Legent Bourbon Selvedge Jacket

Todd Snyder’s rarified Bourbon Selvedge Denim Jacket has left the archives for another limited release—this time for a cause. The much-loved jacket (released last year to near-instant sellout) has made a return to raise money for Asian American and Pacific Islander anti-racism coalition Stop AAPI Hate.

Both the jacket and the bourbon it was released with are the perfect amalgamation of Japanese and American fusion.

Legent, launched in 2019, is a partnership between Beam Suntory’s top brass—specifically, seventh generation Jim Beam master distiller Fred Noe and Shinji Fukuyo, Suntory’s chief blender. Legent is Kentucky bourbon finished in a mixture of wine and sherry casks that’s expertly blended by Fukuyo.

Snyder joined the conversation last October, when he first released this collaborative selvedge denim jacket. Snyder said at the time the jacket “redefines denim, a classic American staple, using the finest whiskey-hued Japanese woven fabric. Produced on old shuttle looms in Okayama and cut and sewn in the U.S., the birthplace of blue jeans, the Bourbon Selvedge Denim Jacket is as unique as the bourbon that inspired it.”

The jacket is back from the archives now with purpose—50 percent of the proceeds going toward Stop AAPI Hate, a national coalition addressing anti-Asian racism across the U.S. Both Snyder and Beam Suntory thought it was imperative to participate.

“For this special edition of my signature Dylan Jacket, we brought together the best in Japanese denim and American craftsmanship, in the same way Legent mixes Japanese blending techniques with American distilling traditions,” Todd Snyder explained this month. “As we celebrate the intersection of East and West with this partnership, we also want to take a moment to acknowledge the challenges faced by many in the Asian American and Pacific Islander community over the past several months and work to put an end to these terrible acts of hatred.”

“As a brand that is rooted in melding the best of Japanese and American craftsmanship, we are fully committed, along with Todd Snyder, to not only be celebrating but also standing behind the AAPI community, especially during this time of increased violence and racism,” said Victoria Russell, Chief Diversity & Inclusion Officer at Beam Suntory. “While we recognize that there is still a lot of work to be done to end xenophobia and bigotry towards the AAPI community, we are hopeful that impactful organizations like Stop AAPI Hate will make a difference in putting an end to the horrible acts of discrimination this community is facing.”

The jacket sold out the same morning it was announced, but was periodically restocked over the following few weeks. That seems to be the case with this year’s release as well.

You have two options to procure one at the moment. The Todd Snyder website has them in stock in several sizes, starting at $398, and they’re also available from ReserveBar for $448, including a bottle of Legent in the package.
