Born and bred in Seattle’s Central District Gifted Gab has been spitting rhymes since she was in elementary school. Today she’s hitting stages city wide,while gaining popularity on a national level. In January,VH1 named her one of the “top 15 female emcees” to look out for in 2015. Just last summer TIME magazine also praised Gab’s work, naming her to the list of The 7 Female Rappers You Should Be Listening to Right Now. Her most recent release “G Shit,”has only added to her busy booking schedule while people keep checking for her music.
“I’m really pleased about my G-Shit EP I recently dropped,” Gab said. “It showcases a taste of my singing and song writing ability. I’m into a lot of different sounds and what not so I’ll have something for every ear.”
Her rhyme style is a mix of new school with a 90’s vibe. Basically Gab has bars, a competitive tone that rides beats very clean. Another reason why people keep talking about her is simple: she spits heat. Q) Name of your favorite rappers growing up?
A) Tupac, BIG, Eminem, Missy, Pun, Snoop, I mean I can’t name just one. Lol the list is extensive.
Q) Has it been hard to get respect as a female emcee or do the lyrics just speak for themselves?
A) Yes and no. Being a female in this game you gotta demand your respect but you gotta earn it like everybody else. I just do what I do & yeah, what you said, let my lyrics speak for them self.
Q) Any big shows, tours or festivals coming up this summer and beyond?
A) Working on it. Always working, so we’ll just see in the upcoming months!
Q) What are your thoughts on the Seattle market starting to get a lot of respect in the hip hop lane?
A) It’s about damn time! Haha Naw it’s been a work in progress. There have been a lot of people that have helped to get us to this place. Now it’s up to us to keep it going.
