FLVRfitness – Father, Doctor, Activist

Father, Doctor, Activist

“Just being black and youthful is a glorious struggle”…

words from Dr. Will Washington;

A man striving to be seen as both family man and  humanitarian.

This North West doctor wakes up every day with a passion to help people and the environment around them.

He is a highly rated emergency physician and certified in Anti-Aging and Regenerative medicine.

His journey to the medical field was not a straight path. He started off at a very young age defying the status quo and creating his own journey.

As a kid, he made a habit of molding his various passions. He was the only one in his neighborhood to pick up a skateboard and push himself on the blacktop. His passion for skateboarding trickled down to other sports like basketball. Dr. Washington attended West Seattle High School and played for the school’s basketball team all four years. He honed his craft 6-8 hours at a time with pick up games or drills by himself. His successful basketball career peaked with “all-metro player” honors, a very difficult thing to do in a competitive basketball city.” “My dream was to play in the NBA.” Though it did not happen, it was a motivator to persevere.

Dr. Washington had many people in his life that influenced him to become the doctor that he is today. His father was that first inspiration. He was a person who was heavily involved in the community and was a huge advocate for health, fitness and the quality of life. Dr. Washington witnessed this motivation and lived it on a daily basis; making it almost inherent to his genetic makeup.

As he began his career in medicine,  Dr. Hansen was his top inspiration. His healthy lifestyle and professionalism made Dr. Washington a believer. That is when Dr. Hansen informed him that he should come to Whitman College. “A college that was in the middle of nowhere and with no black students,” Washington said. Dr. Hansen saw something in Washington and wanted him to play basketball at his alma mater. He told him that he would write a letter of recommendation to get him into the prestigious medical school. It was a culture shock but Washington trusted him and ultimately attended and played basketball at the college for two years. Dr. Hansen was the one to really push Washington.

With Hansen’s encouragement Washington was accepted into the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine, then to University of Illinois College of Medicine at Chicago for residency.

Now Dr. Washington is that someone who walks the walk as one of our most sought after Anti-Aging physicians. He currently has four practices around the greater Seattle area. His motto to “Avoid Disease and Promote Health” can be felt throughout his clinics.

Dr. Washington’s patients come to him seeking solutions to weight loss, sexual health problems, hormonal imbalances, sleep disorders as well as a vast array of other problems.

He still loves working in the ER two weekends a month where he finds great balance between work and businesses. When he attended the University of Illinois College of Medicine, he opened an urgent care center for the homeless once a week. He had help from other Doctors and med students.

He is also working hard to get the word out about both the affordability and accessibility of anti-aging medicine. There are many ways to help improve your quality of life and anti-aging is such a huge part of it all. There are always new things discovered or created to help your overall quality of life. Dr. Washington has a desire to investigate all of these practices.

 Dr. Washington is a successful Physician in his own right, but he has also helped others make a name for themselves in the medical field. He provides internships and job advice, he believes that the more people he helps educate in his field, the better chance his community has at a higher quality of life.

His face lights up when you bring up his family, especially his 6-year-old daughter. He is an  involved parent. You can often find him at her various school events; informing their classmates how important it is to lead a healthy life. His fulfillment comes at the sight of her enthusiasm when she shares who her Father is to her and what he does for other people. He wants her to understand the amount of effort he puts into his job, while also maintaining the awareness that she comes first.

“You can find me in the role of Doctor and community activist,”  when asked about his passions. “Whether it be labor, environmental, racial, or housing; whatever kind of justice, I’m here to help and listen”. That is his real passion, growing as a doctor and being involved in his community.
